UPDATE: LED ZEPPELIN COMING TO THEATERS AND MORE. ANTHRAX VS. SLAYER IN DRUM OFF.

Led Zeppelin have confirmed that their 2007 reunion concert at London’s O2 arena will be released in “multiple configurations” as ‘Celebration Day’ on Nov. 19, 2012. Prior to this, the film will screen at movie theaters across the globe on Oct. 17.

This official announcement brings a happy and expected end to a five-day countdown that began over the weekend on the band’s official Facebook page. Although some fans speculated (or hoped) that the group would instead announce a new studio album or tour, many details about their actual plans to release the 2007 concert leaked over the following days.

The press release does not specify which formats — CD, DVD, Blu-ray, vinyl, etc. — ‘Celebration Day’ will be released on, promising that such details will be revealed “soon.” Tickets for the Oct. 17 theater screenings go on sale Sept. 13 (hey, that’s today!) and can be purchased through the band’s official website.

While it’s not clear where those territories will be, it’s clear that the run is a limited engagement, perhaps one night only. The synopsis makes clear that it is indeed the 2007 show in honor of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun that will be screened in high definition.

Yesterday the British newspaper the Sun may have scooped the band on the DVD and Blu-ray release date, reporting that both will be available on Nov. 22. While it’s not certain the Facebook countdown is leading to an announcement of how fans unable to score a ticket to the show at the O2 Arena can see the concert, it’s worth pointing out that Day 0 (Sept. 13) marks the fifth anniversary of when the band announced the show.

The 16 song set included many of the rock legend’s most well-known tracks, like ‘Kashmir,’ ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Rock and Roll.’ It was their first headlining show in 27 years, and included the three surviving members, with Jason Bonham replacing the late John Bonham.

Three of the leading gear/technology companies for both musicians and consumers alike returned last Friday (September 7) with their successful “Metal Masters” clinic series. “Metal Masters 4” brought back some of the classic “masters” while adding a few new members to the list. Friday night’s main band comprised of Philip Anselmo (DOWN, ex-PANTERA), Kerry King (SLAYER), Dave Lombardo (SLAYER), Scott Ian (ANTHRAX), Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Frank Bello (ANTHRAX) and newly added masters Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, DAVID LEE ROTH) and Gary Holt (EXODUS, SLAYER).

Fan-filmed video footage of the “drum-off” between Lombardo and Benante can be seen below.
