One very late Saturday night back when Headbanger’s Ball was an event we metalheads looked forward to, I saw this video for the very first time. In the twenty-plus years that have passed it still holds the same excitement and power for me.

I believe “Mouth for War,” may well be both the peak and perfection for heavy metal videos. It’s pure, raw, filled with the take no shit attitude that IS metal. It simply doesn’t get any better.

There’s the ungodly mighty riff from the almighty Dime, the tight, tense, spectacular drum work from the powerhouse Vinny Paul, the sublime and intense bass lines from the criminally under-rated Rex Brown, and the lyrics delivered from an inspired, angry, not to be disrespected Phil Anselmo.

One mother of a song.
