Robert and Dean DeLeo of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS joined AEROSMITH frontman and “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler on stage during last night’s (Wednesday, May 25) season 10 “Idol” finale to perform the AEROSMITH classic “Dream On”. You can watch video footage of their appearance below.

Despite Tyler‘s recent insistence that AEROSMITHwould play the “American Idol” finale, AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry said in a recent online posting that the band was “never asked by producers” to perform at the event.

He added that “Brad [Whitford, AEROSMITH guitarist] has a gig that night with [Experience Hendrix]. It’s not logistically possible.”Perry did write that AEROSMITH is “looking forward to playing ‘American Idol’ next season when our new CD is out and we can prepare [for] a kick-ass show if they ask us.”

British heavy metal legends JUDAS PRIEST performed during last night’s (Wednesday, May 25) season 10 “American Idol” finale.

They hit the stage with James Durbin, the 22-year-old rocker from Santa Cruz, California, who was eliminated from “American Idol”earlier in the month but who made a return appearance during tonight’s broadcast. PRIEST and Durbinperformed the band’s classic songs “Living After Midnight” and “Breaking The Law”.JUDAS PRIEST‘s appearance on “American Idol” marked the band’s first performance with the group’s latest addition, 31-year-old guitarist Richie Faulkner (LAUREN HARRIS, DIRTY DEEDS).

Durbin sang the JUDAS PRIEST classic “You Got Another Thing Coming” on the March 1 edition of “Idol”. His rendition marked the first time, according to AEROSMITH singer and “American Idol” judge Steven Tyler, where a JUDAS PRIEST single was performed on the “Idol” stage.

JUDAS PRIEST will launch the U.S. leg of its farewell world tour on October 12 in San Antonio and the band promises that it will go out with a bang. Singer Rob Halford said, “We’re pulling out all the stops. We’ve built a brand new stage set, we’ve got all the effects that people love us for —the lasers, the fire, the bombs, the smoke, new costumes, and the bike. It’s just a full-on metal extravaganza.”

Guitarist Glenn Tipton added that the group will play something from each of its albums, including a few numbers that have never been performed live before. As for whether this is really the end of JUDAS PRIEST‘s touring days, Tipton added, “If somebody came along and said, ‘Would you do a small string of dates,’ we wouldn’t automatically say no to that. But in general, this is probably the last chance you’ll get to see PRIEST live.”

 

A special two-track promo-only CD single is being made available featuring “The Wicker Man”, which originally appeared on the album “Brave New World”, released in 2000, and was a U.K. Top Ten hit, and “The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg”, which was the lead track from
2006’s “A Matter Of Life And Death” album.

Both tracks are now available for free download until June 22 at this location.

MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has once again commented on the reports that GODSMACK‘s “Cryin’ Like A Bitch” single was written
as a slam on Sixx after the two bands apparently clashed during the Crüe Fest 2 tour.

In a posting on his Facebook page, Sixx responded to a question from a fan in which Nikki was asked “what happened [between] you and Sully.”

“Every person — from road crew, fans and even all the bands on the tour (including [Sully‘s] band) — was so happy, but [Erna] just seems to be crying like a bitch,” Sixx replied.

“Funny, even his manager told me he’s an asshole… Maybe the problem is just in HIS head… I got no problem with him.”

GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna admitted in a webisode for the band’s fifth studio album, “The Oracle”, that “Cryin’ Like A Bitch” was inspired by events of Crüe Fest 2, on whichGODSMACK was billed below headliners MÖTLEY CRÜE. Sully told Artisan News Service at the time, “There’s definitely been some rock-star garbage on this tour that we just have never seen in our career . . . this was the first time that I felt like, ‘You know what?! If there’s gonna be some people that are gonna treat other people a certain way, then I’m gonna go out there every night and . . . make sure that we make you look old and fat, and go home with a nice big fat paycheck.”
