Karen Rice of the U.K.’s Mail Online has penned an extensive article detailing the final days of legendary guitarist Gary Moore with his girlfriend Petra Nioduschewski, who was the last person to see Gary alive at the five-star Kempinski resort on the Costa del Sol in Spain.

A hotel source told the Mail Online, “At around four o’clock in the morning [on Sunday, February 6], [Petra] called for help and a security guard went to the room and found Gary on the bed in his underpants.

“He tried to pump his heart but he was already cold. She was in a bathrobe, completely shocked. She had tried to resuscitate him before the security guard got there. When the ambulance came, they didn’t try to shock his heart because he was already gone.’

A friend said: “Petra tried to help Gary. She gave him mouth to mouth and tried his heart until help came — they told her she did everything right. There were no signs of trouble, he had been fine all day and then he just stopped breathing. She knew there was something up when she couldn’t hear him breathing any more.”

CHICKENFOOT, the rock supergroup featuring former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar and bassist Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, entered Hagar‘s private studio in Northern California on January 29 with engineer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA) to begin recording its second album for a late 2011 release.

A video message from CHICKENFOOT filmed during the current studio sessions can be viewed below.

In a recent interview with Guitar International, Hagar stated about the recording process for the new CHICKENFOOT CD, “We’re writing in the studio on the spot. Joe presents us with some musical ideas, and his ideas are really together, it isn’t this vague idea. He presents you with an intro, a verse, a chorus, a bridge, a solo and an ending. Then we jam to it. I see if it feels melodically in my repertoire of blues licks that I have in my voice. [Laughs] Then I come up with a good melody and structure, and we work on the arrangement until we all agree. Then my job is to come up with a title before we’re done rehearsing the song. Last but not least, I go out and write the lyrics. Believe it or not, I’ve already written lyrics for five of the songs on the new record. Then we get a take that sounds good and we continue the process. I can’t believe how fast things are going with this record. It’s amazing.”

He continued, “We’re flying through it, but I don’t think that’ll have any bearing on when it gets released. I don’t think we’ll release it until towards the end of the year. It’s happening fast on its own, but we had to cram Chad, drums] into this five-week period we have here to get it done. We’re way ahead of that. We expected in the five weeks to get 12 or 13 songs written and lay down the drum tracks. Then Chad could go away for the rest of the year and Joe, Michael and I could finish the record. That’s the way it was planned, but we’re way beyond that. It’s fucking crazy, the chemistry in this band. We’re even pushing ourselves this time to do some things musically that we know we’re capable of, but that we haven’t touched on yet. I keep telling Joe, ‘Come up with any idea you want for me. How would you like to hear me sing? Write some music like that and I’ll stretch myself and make my voice and lyric ideas work for that music.’ We’ve done this already in a short time, and it seems like with this band everything just comes easy. No matter what we bite off, it comes easy. There’s a real special chemistry that we have with this band.”

Southern Florida hard rockers NONPOINT are offering a free download of a new studio recording of their version of the MICHAEL JACKSON classic “Billie Jean”.

Commented the band: “We did this on New Year’s out of the blue and four hours before the show we said, ‘Let’s give this a go.’

Chris Cornell and David Cook did it, but the dark quality made it appealing.

“The response was overwhelming when we did and lots of fans suggested we do a studio version. Well, our buddy Jeff Martin from Simplekill studio let us come in and bang this out in a couple of hours.”

Fan-filmed video footage of NONPOINT performing an “acoustic” cover version of “Billie Jean” this past New Year’s Eve (December 31) in Madison, Wisconsin can be viewed below.

SOUNDGARDEN/ex-AUDIOSLAVE singer Chris Cornell recorded a cover of “Billie Jean” on his 2007 solo album, “Carry On”.

NONPOINT has been on the road nearly nonstop since the beginning of 2010, sharing the stage with COLD, SEVENDUST, DROWNING POOL, HELLYEAH and playing memorable sets at Rock On The Range and U.K.’s Download festival.

NONPOINT‘s latest album, “Miracle”, sold around 8,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 60 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Miracle” was released in Europe on June 14, 2010 via Powerage Records. The CD was made available in the U.S. on May 4, 2010 via the band’s own 954 Records in partnership with Rocket Science Ventures / RED / Sony.

NONPOINT‘s “Miracle” video was directed by Dale “Rage” Resteghini, whose credits include videos for ANTHRAX, FALL OUT BOY, LIL WAYNE, STRAIGHT LINE STITCH, THE GAME, BUSTA RHYMES, SOULJA BOY and many others.
