DEEP PURPLE AND KISS SNUBBED AGAIN. RUSH AND HEART ARE IN.
Adding to their canon of inept, clueless, and curious decisions, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (Shame) got it wrong again, mostly. Not surprising since that has been standard fair of the Hall for the past decade or so.
It’s as if Sgt. Stadenko is in charge.
If you induct RUSH, don’t you have to induct DEEP PURPLE? C’mon, there may not have been a RUSH without the pre-progressive hard rock of DEEP PURPLE and while RUSH is one of my all-time favorite bands and is supremely deserving of the honor (if you can call it that) of being named Hall of Famers, DEEP PURPLE should have been inducted long before RUSH.
Rush members are less than impressed. Bassist Geddy Lee credits the fans who championed the cause, telling Rolling Stone it is their victory as much as the band’s. Guitarist Alex Lifeson was more direct with the Canadian Press:
“I never really cared if it happened or not, to be honest with you. It doesn’t change anybody’s life at the end of the day. Are we going to become more popular? Are we going to sell more records? Are more people going to come to the shows? I don’t know. We’re quite happy where we are and with what we’ve accomplished.
“So we continue to do the kind of work we want to do and we will continue regardless of our induction or not,” he added. “I think at the end of the day, really, what this is about is making our fans feel like their support has been worthy.”
It is shameful that DONNA SUMMER (another fave of mind) YEAH I ADMIT I LOVE ME SOME DONNA SUMMER! is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and KISS and DEEP PURPLE are not.
The list of shameful inductees is long enough that it begins with ABBA and includes such rockers as James Taylor and Percy Sledge. WOW!
While artists as influential and successful as Steve Miller, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and Cheap Trick are still OUT!
HEART finally made it in along with PUBLIC ENEMY, RANDY NEWMAN, ALBERT KING, QUINCY JONES and LOU ADLER.
Only three of these are deserving of Rock and Roll hall of Fame status, if it is any status at all that is.
