Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley performed last night (Friday, March 11) outside St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida after the Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Ottawa Senators game as part of this season’s outdoor concert series.

According to the Bradenton Classic Rock Music Examiner, “Ace wore his favorite number 27 on a Tampa Bay Lightning jersey with his name embedded on the back and wore dark shades throughout the concert. While Ace played and sang, he consistently bombarded the crowd with his guitar picks.”

Among the songs Frehley performed were “Snowblind” and “New York Groove” from his first solo album in 1978; “Sister”, from his latest CD, “Anomaly”; and “Rock Soldiers” from his second album, “Frehley’s Comet”.

Ace reminded the Tampa crowd that he was almost electrocuted in Lakeland at the Civic Center in 1976, then immediately jumped into his tune “Shock Me”, a song both written and sung by Ace on the KISS “Love Gun” album in 1977. He also banged out KISS favorites “Love Gun” and “Deuce” and ended the concert with “Cold Gin” from the first KISS album.

During their soundcheck on Friday afternoon (March 11) for their first of two shows at the Agora in Cleveland, Ohio, MANOWAR blew the power system on the entire city block where the venue is located. The power company still had not restored power as of last night and the venue was only operating with partial power. As a result, temporary generators had to be rushed in to run MANOWAR‘s sound and lights and a lot of extra gear was brought in for the show. Fortunately, the generators worked and the show was not canceled.

According to a posting on MANOWAR‘s official web site, the band is scheduled to return to the studio in April, presumably to resume work on its long-awaited new album, “Hammer Of The Gods”.

MANOWAR bassist and producer Joey DeMaio previously stated about the status of the songwriting and recording sessions for “Hammer Of The Gods”, “The truth is this: [original MANOWAR drummer] Donnie Hamzik is officially back in the band, and that changed everything for us. So all the songs that were written have been completely fucking thrown out, completely ditched — gone, never to be heard from again. The writing has changed because Donnie‘s back in the band and he’s burning like a mad motherfucking demon on drums. So this album is gonna basically sound like I told you before — like somebody put gasoline on your fucking balls and lit it. So it’ll be worth the fucking wait, ’cause when it comes, it’s coming back.”

“Hammer Of The Gods” was previously described as the first installment of “The Asgard Saga”, the band’s unique multimedia fantasy adventure with best-selling author Wolfgang Hohlbein.

Former RUNAWAYS singer Cherie Currie and Paul Inder — son of MOTÖRHEAD icon Lemmy — joined MOTÖRHEAD on stage last night (Friday, March 11) at Club Nokia in Los Angeles for a performance of the MOTÖRHEAD classic “Killed By Death”.
